World-leading manufacturer Dokka Fasteners expands to Lithuania

Norway’s Dokka Fasteners, a globally renowned industrial fasteners manufacturer, is expanding its European operations and plans to establish a manufacturing unit in Klaipėda. The international real estate advisory firm Newsec in the Baltics advised the investor in its search for premises.

Dokka Fasteners CEO Dennis Birresborn notes the company has chosen Lithuania for its talent pool and certain other advantages such as the country’s membership in the EU and the Euro Zone.

“The wind energy market is very competitive and challenging and today we serve OEMs all over the globe. We have noticed that, regarding supply chains, we are often too far away from our customers in Europe. That’s why we decided to expand our operations here,” Birresborn says.

“As our real estate partners in Lithuania, Newsec, demonstrated the highest professionalism and made sure that the location we settled on is the one best-suited to the company’s needs. Our products are rather heavy, so to optimize logisitics we wanted a port city. That is the main reason we chose Klaipėda. We envision the Klaipeda plant becoming a part of a lean supply chain serving a global market,” the CEO adds.

Aivaras Katinas, a commercial real estate expert at Newsec, notes that it was possible to reconcile the interests of all the parties and find premises that meet Dokka Fasteners’ high standards and adapt them to the company’s needs.

“The building, which was previously adapted to one particularly large manufacturer, required additional investment for the selected part of the premises to meet the needs of Dokka Fasteners. Following the acquisition of the building by the new owners, a mutually beneficial agreement to both parties of the transaction was reached, and as a result a new foreign investor has come to Lithuania,” Katinas notes.

According to Elijus Čivilis, the General Manager of Invest Lithuania, the rapidly expanding wind energy industry offers strong demand for speciality and high-quality products, and Lithuania can benefit from that.

“Dokka Fasteners is a strong player in the fasteners segment and the company’s choice to expand in Lithuania will deepen the country’s competences in green energy. This will also add to the strength of the Klaipėda region in process automation and could potentially open the door to further development of the wind turbine supply chain in Lithuania,” says Čivilis.
