History
Although Naujamiestis is a new city by its name, in fact it is one of the oldest districts in Vilnius. 1860 with the construction of the St. Petersburg-Warsaw railway, the development of the district became extremely rapid. 1875 a new city development plan has been drawn up. The new city is divided into rectangular quarters in this plan, and straight streets are planned instead of the former streets and roads. This plan, with minor modifications, has been implemented. The current system of Naujamiestis streets was formed in accordance with 1875 plan. Mindaugas, Švitrigaila, Vytenio, T.
